DEVOTIONAL READING: Humbled by God’s Holiness
DEVOTIONAL READING: Humbled by God’s Holiness
Week of January 12-18, 2025
Notes for further study from 2 Samuel 7 as individuals and 2 Samuel 8 in our small groups.
Personal Devotions: Read 2 Samuel 7
- What specific promises does God make to David in His covenant (verses 12–16), and how does David respond to these promises?
- Why does God reject David’s plan to build Him a house (temple) and instead promise to establish David’s house (dynasty)? What does this reveal about God’s priorities and character?
- How can we trust and respond to God’s plans for our lives, especially when they differ from our desires or expectations, as David did in his prayer of gratitude (verses 18–29)?
Small Groups: Read 2 Samuel 8
- What are the key victories and accomplishments of David described in this chapter, and how is the Lord’s role in these successes highlighted?
- What is the significance of David dedicating the spoils of war to the Lord (verses 11–12), and what does this reveal about his understanding of his kingship and relationship with God?
- How can we recognize and honor God as the source of our successes and blessings in our lives, as David did throughout his victories?
